Choose the Front Stack Before Tooling

Touch performance depends on the full front structure: sensor type, cover lens, surface treatment, bonding method, controller interface and use environment.

Pressure input

Resistive Touch Panel

For single-touch input, stylus use, cost-sensitive products and industrial controls where pressure activation is acceptable.

Multi-touch input

Projected Capacitive Touch

For modern HMI, handheld devices and TFT display products that need multi-touch, clear optics and controller tuning.

Mechanical surface

Custom Cover Lens

For glass thickness, printed border, holes, corner radius, AG/AR/AF coating and enclosure fit requirements.

Readability path

Optical Bonding

For outdoor readability, condensation control, impact support and reduced internal reflection in demanding projects.

Selection guide

RTP, PCAP, Cover Lens or Optical Bonding?

The right front stack depends on input method, optical target, mechanical risk and application environment.

Project Need Typical Direction What to Confirm
Industrial control with simple input F+G or F+F resistive touch panel Actuation force, tail direction, connector, overlay size and operating environment.
Modern multi-touch HMI G+F, G+F+F or G+G projected capacitive touch Touch IC, I2C or USB interface, cover lens thickness, water and glove tuning.
Outdoor readability Cover lens with AG/AR treatment and optical bonding review Brightness, reflection target, bonding method, surface treatment and sunlight exposure.
Medical or cleaning-sensitive panel Chemically strengthened cover lens with AF or other surface treatment Cleaning agent exposure, coating area, glass thickness, edge treatment and enclosure fit.
Vehicle or rugged product G+G PCAP, stronger cover lens and bonding review Vibration, temperature, EMC noise, cover lens shape and lifecycle requirements.

Touch Panel, Cover Lens and Optical Stack Selection

The front stack of an LCD module affects usability, durability, sunlight readability, cleaning method and final assembly risk. Before choosing a resistive touch panel, capacitive touch panel, cover lens or optical bonding process, define the application environment and user interaction method.

Front stack option Best fit RFQ details to confirm
RTP resistive touch panel Industrial controls, stylus input, glove operation and cost-sensitive devices. Touch area, tail direction, actuation method, overlay material and expected operating environment.
PCAP capacitive touch panel Modern HMI, medical devices, handheld terminals and multi-touch user interfaces. Touch IC, cover lens thickness, glove or wet touch needs, bonding method and noise environment.
Custom cover lens Products needing a defined look, logo window, protection layer, sealing or special surface finish. Glass or PMMA, thickness, outline, ink color, logo, window size, edge treatment and tolerance.
Optical bonding Outdoor, high-brightness, vibration-prone or sealed displays where readability and durability matter. LCD size, cover lens, air gap concern, sunlight condition, thermal design and reliability test needs.

Surface treatment choices

  • AG anti-glare helps reduce reflections in bright environments.
  • AR anti-reflection improves optical transmission and perceived clarity.
  • AF anti-fingerprint supports easier cleaning for frequent-touch devices.
  • Hard coating and strengthened glass can improve scratch and impact resistance.

What to send for front-stack review

  • LCD module size, active area and outline drawing.
  • Touch type preference, controller requirement and host interface.
  • Cover lens material, thickness, outline, printing and surface treatment.
  • Use environment, cleaning method, IP/sealing target and operating temperature.
  • Sample quantity, annual forecast and production timeline.

Application Risks to Decide Early

Application condition Risk if not defined early Helpful next page
Outdoor or high ambient light Reflection, poor contrast and heat buildup may reduce readability. Optical bonding vs air gap LCD
Industrial HMI operation Glove touch, EMI noise, vibration and long lifecycle requirements may be missed. Industrial TFT LCD display modules
High brightness display stack Backlight, thermal design and cover lens reflection need to be reviewed together. High brightness TFT LCD modules
Custom TFT LCD integration FPC, connector, cover lens and bonding decisions can affect the whole module structure. Custom TFT LCD modules

Touch and Cover Lens FAQ

Should an OEM project choose RTP or PCAP touch?

RTP is often practical for stylus, glove and cost-sensitive industrial use. PCAP is usually better for modern multi-touch interfaces, thicker cover lens designs and premium user experience. The best choice depends on the application, environment and host electronics.

When is optical bonding worth considering?

Optical bonding is useful when sunlight readability, vibration resistance, condensation control or stronger front-stack durability matters. It should be reviewed together with brightness, cover lens, thermal design and reliability requirements.

Can the cover lens be customized for the device housing?

Yes. Cover lens outline, material, thickness, logo printing, window area, edge treatment and surface coating can be reviewed for OEM/ODM display projects. A mechanical drawing or housing opening helps reduce back-and-forth during review.

Touch Display Evaluation

Review touch panel, cover lens and optical stack together

Touch and cover lens decisions affect readability, durability, noise immunity, mechanical fit and user experience. Confirm touch type, glass thickness, surface treatment and bonding needs early.

RFQ details to confirm

  • Display size, resolution and interface
  • Brightness, touch panel, cover lens or bonding needs
  • Operating environment, quantity and lifecycle concerns
